A little accessorizing goes a long, long way. It’s the final touch that pulls your look completely together. Use the proper mix of colors, prints, and textures and select accessories that accentuate and compliment your total look. Whatever your style, looking fabulous entails your complete visual package.
A basic black dress instantly feels elevated with gold jewelry, a structured handbag, and a great pair of shoes. Jeans and a white tee can look designer simply by adding a statement necklace or a chic blazer.
I’m a gold jewelry girl through and through. Give me chunky hoops, layered necklaces, bold bangles, and rings, and I’m happy.

I’m all for saving money. But I also believe in investing where it counts. One beautiful handbag can instantly elevate your entire wardrobe.
Throughout the years I’ve collected handbags from brands like Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. Those pieces have lasted for years and still make every outfit feel a little more luxurious.
The key isn’t owning dozens of designer bags. It’s owning one or two quality bags that you’ll actually use.
If a luxury handbag isn’t in your budget yet, that’s okay. Start with a well-made structured bag in a classic shape and neutral color. It’ll work with almost everything you own.
Build Your Capsule Wardrobe
Trends come and go. Style lasts forever. Instead of filling your closet with trendy pieces you’ll wear once, build a capsule wardrobe around timeless basics that never go out of style.

One of my favorite purchases ever was a pair of charcoal wide-leg trousers I bought years ago. They were tailored to fit perfectly, and I still wear them today.

Nothing looks more expensive than clothes that fit beautifully. Even affordable clothing can look custom-made with a little tailoring.
A hemmed pair of pants.
A nipped-in blazer.
A waist taken in.
Small alterations make a huge difference—and usually cost far less than buying higher-end clothing.
Fit will always beat price.
Choose a Color Palette
Here’s one of my favorite styling tricks: Build your outfit around neutrals. Shades like black, white, cream, camel, chocolate brown, gray, navy, and denim go with almost everything. Then add one or two colors from the color wheel to create interest. It’s an easy way to put together outfits that feel polished, intentional, and effortlessly chic. When most of your wardrobe coordinates, you can mix and match endlessly.

Take Care of What You Own
You don’t need a huge wardrobe. You need a well-maintained one.
Keep your clothes clean, pressed, and in good repair. Replace missing buttons. Repair loose hems. Fix broken zippers.
One of the best style tips I’ve ever received came from image consultant Chloe Taylor Brown: Never hang clothing that needs cleaning or repairs back in your closet.
Otherwise, you’ll inevitably reach for it five minutes before you’re supposed to leave the house.

I’ve always believed you don’t have to spend a fortune to look stylish. Shop end-of-season sales. Sign up for your favorite stores’ email lists. Use reward programs. Mix affordable basics with elevated accessories. Buy pieces that work with multiple outfits instead of just one.
Every purchase should earn its place in your closet.
Invest Wisely in Shoes
I’m hard on shoes, so I’ve learned not to spend a fortune on every pair. Instead, I either shop smart or wait for a great sale.
Shoes can be tricky because inexpensive styles can sometimes look…well, inexpensive. The key is finding affordable shoes that are well made, comfortable, and have a polished look.
Most of my shoes come from Macy’s—brands like I.N.C., Calvin Klein, and Nine West. They consistently offer stylish, quality shoes at prices that fit my budget. That allows me to build a versatile shoe collection without overspending.
No matter where you buy your shoes, take care of them. A beautiful pair of shoes can instantly elevate an outfit—but only if they still look their best. Keep them clean and polished, and replace heel tips and sole protectors every couple of years to extend their life. A little maintenance goes a long way and helps even budget-friendly shoes look expensive.
